Company History
Better Impact was founded in 2000 when the company’s former President, Tony Goodrow, saw a bigger future for his passion project of building a web-based volunteer management system for a hospice organization he was serving with. Today, Better Impact is still committed to helping purpose-driven organizations thrive through efficient volunteer coordination and serves more than 25,000 customers.
Better Impact’s current CEO Houston Goodwin and President Timothy Sarazen took over in April 2025, about five months after The Brydon Group acquired Better Impact. Since this acquisition, Better Impact has continued to grow as a global company that serves organizations in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and many other countries.

Accessibility Pro Widget Release
Better Impact rolled out a new product feature, the Accessibility Pro Widget, in December 2025. This feature reflects Better Impact’s commitment to making volunteerism inclusive and accessible for everyone involved and enables teams to comply with digital accessibility guidelines while engaging volunteers. Users can adjust color contrast, font sizing and spacing, cursor movement, and other accessibility characteristics from a single collapsible panel.
Volunteer Management Hybrid Conference
In October 2025, Better Impact hosted the eleventh annual Volunteer Management Hybrid Conference (VMHC) in partnership with AL!VE and Volunteer Management Professionals of Canada (VMPC). Participants could attend virtually or at one of the more than 40 host sites across the US and Canada. The conference theme, “Show Them the Money,” focused on showcasing the ROI of volunteer programs and presenting their tangible results to organizational leadership.
500 Million Hours of Good Podcast
Better Impact launched its first-ever podcast, 500 Million Hours of Good, on August 8, 2025. In each episode, CEO Houston Goodwin interviews a volunteer manager about their experience working in the sector and leveraging specialized technology. Guests have included Leah Gagnier of Mission Thrift Stores, Kristin Kraemer of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum, and Angie Fairbanks of Women Helping Women. The podcast name comes from the fact that, at the time of its launch, over 500 million volunteer hours had been tracked with Better Impact.

Once an organization selects a plan, its pricing is determined based on the number of active volunteers (not total volunteers) in its database.
