The Volunteer Management Hybrid Conference 2018

This unique event will broadcast live from Hamilton Ontario Canada on two separate days, October 23 and 24 as the broadcast will present to Eastern/Central/Atlantic time zones October 24, and Pacific/Mountain October 23). You may register for the day and time zone that works best for your local group.

The broadcast will be streamed live to more than 50 remote locations in the United States and Canada, with the likelihood of an audience of 1000 or more. One of the goals of this event is to provide quality, high level professional development events in local areas where access and resources may be limited to local associations of volunteer engagement professionals, volunteer centers, or other entities with an interest in professional development for those who engage volunteers.

How does it work?
Same as before, your local group pays a connection fee and arranges for a location (with a screen, speakers, and space for an audience), meals and a local facilitator to guide local discussion). You can charge your local attendees whatever price you choose. It could be a free event, or charge a fee you determine per person and make some profit for your local network.

Heidi Jakop, CVA

Empowering your volunteers to take ownership, initiative, and lead provides opportunities for your volunteers to grow and flourish, just like your organization. Surrounding yourself with those who have strengths and talents that differ from yours not only builds your organizations capacity but allows staff to hone new skills as you work alongside them.

This session will share examples, steps, and opportunities for cultivating and empowering leadership in your volunteers and engaging a diversely talented team. Drawing from the Servant Leadership style, we will also explore creating the conditions and environment that allow volunteers to shine.

Heidi Jakop, CVA is the Director, Volunteer Engagement for Vancouver Botanical Gardens Association. Heidi is the President of the Administrators of Volunteer Resources of BC. Heidi was most recently an instructor at Langara College for the Volunteer Coordinator Certificate Program and facilitates workshops and webinars for university, municipality, volunteer centres, and professional associations.


Angela Williamson, CVA

Topic: How I’ve learned to lead my way and take charge of my day

I want anyone listening to find at least 1 idea that they can implement that moment, or the next day to either save them time, create larger capacity of volunteering in their organization, or empower them to add volunteers in their own work. A practical talk with many take-away points.

Angela Williamson, CVA, has been the volunteer manager at Hagley Museum & Library in Delaware for 11 years. She has been the president of the Delaware Association of Volunteer Administrators (DAVA) 4 years and supporting in other roles in other years. She worked in education at a public garden prior to Hagley. She loves pursuing and promoting volunteering as an important role in society. Angela comes from the US Midwest of friendly people.

Beth Steinhorn

Topic: Getting a Seat at the Table: How Your Peers Went from Coordinator to Director and from a Do-er to an Influencer

In this session, participants will:
• Understand where they can find research to support strategic volunteer engagement.
• By hearing case studies from the field, learn at least three different paths for advocating for strategic engagement.
• Gain tips on how to get a seat at the leadership table and shift from managing volunteers to, instead, serving as an internal consultant to support staff from across the organization in effectively engaging and supporting volunteers.

Beth Steinhorn is the President of VQ Volunteer Strategies and partners with organizations and their leadership to increase their impact through strategic and innovative engagement. The author of multiple books and articles on strategic volunteer engagement, she is a popular speaker and trainer, known for her interactive and inspiring presentations.

Cancellation Policy

Registration and payment policy (VMPC)
Payment for the hybrid conference is due within 30 days of registration, either by credit card or check. There are limited number of sites able to participate and a site’s spot is not secure until payment has been received in full. Once payment is processed, the site will be eligible to receive marketing materials, to have their site advertised as a conference host location on the promotional website, and to receive the pre-event planning package.

Cancellation and refund policy
Cancellations prior to August 15, 2018 will receive a full refund, less a $50 administrative fee. If a site cancels between August 16 and September 21, 2018, they will be eligible for a refund of 50% of their hosting fee. Cancellations received after October 5, 2018 will not be eligible for any refund except in extreme cases, such as natural disasters and other uncontrollable circumstances.

Consider partnering with a nearby local association if you are close enough to do so to avoid local competition.
