Google Analytics

About this feature: You can collect information about the traffic on your public pages by integrating Google Analytics into your organization. You’ll need your own Google account with Google Analytics to use this feature. Your IT team can help you with this and you can provide them the information below to help them get started. 

Set up a Google Account 

  1. Visit https://accounts.google.com/SignUp to create a google account 
  1. Fill out the form and click “Next Step”. Include your mobile number to help secure your account (not required). 
  1. You will get a confirmation email in whatever email you provided in the form. Make sure to follow the link in the confirmation email so that your account is confirmed. 

Setting up Using Google Analytics 4 

  1. Go to the analytics sign up page: https://analytics.google.com 
  1. Click the [Set up for free] Button to set up your account and log in 
  1. Once logged in, click on ‘Admin’  
  1. Click on the [+ Create Property] button 
  1. Property Name: Enter a name to identify your public page. We suggest something like “{Organization Name} – Public Volunteer Page” 
  1. Select the Reporting time zone and Currency 
  1. Click on ‘Show advanced options’ 
  1. Click the slide icon on the right to Create a Universal Analytics property 
  1. Enter “Website URL”: click on the http:// and change it to https:// then enter your public page link into the box 
    • To create a link to your public page, please follow these instructions and select the Home Page 
  1. Select “Create a Universal Analytics property only” 
  1. Click the [Next] button 
  1. Complete Business Information 
  1. Click the [Create] button 
  1. You are all set! Soon your analytics Dashboard will be filled with statistics for you. Consider book marking https://analytics.google.com so, you can find your analytics again later. 

Set up Google Analytics to Existing Account (not upgraded to GA4) 

Note: You need Edit permission on the Google Analytics account to use this feature. 

  1. Go to the analytics sign in page: https://analytics.google.com 
  1. Click on “Admin” 
  1. In the Account column, select “+Create Account” from the menu 
  1. Click on “Website” 
  1. Under Setting up your Account 
    • Enter your organization name as the “Account Name” 
    • Check and/or Uncheck any of the data sharing options that you would like to include 
      • Click the ‘Next’ button 
    • Make sure “Website” is selected at the top. Do not select “Mobile app” 
      • Click the ‘Next’ button 
  1. Under Setting up your property: 
    • Enter a name to identify your public page. We suggest something like “{Organization Name} – Public Volunteer Page” 
    • Enter “Website URL”: click on the http:// and change it to https:// then enter your public page link into the box 
      • To create a link to your public page, please follow these instructions and select the Home Page 
    • If you would like, you can select an Industry. This helps google generate reports for you. 
    • Select your country / timezone 
    • Click the ‘Create’ button or ‘Get Tracking ID’ 
  1. You are all set! Soon your analytics Dashboard will be filled with statistics for you. Consider book marking https://analytics.google.com so, you can find your analytics again later. 

Enable Google Analytics 

  1. Once you have set up Google Analytics, go to Configuration, then click on “Public Volunteer Page Settings” found in the sidebar under Recruitment
  1. Scroll down to the “Configuration” section 
  1. Enter your tracking ID, generated during your Google Analytics setup 
  1. Click the [Save] button
