How do you approach these transitions in a way that prioritizes safety while honoring their years of service and helping them remain connected to the organization?" with ๐Ÿค™๐Ÿฝ 01:06:28 Martin Falcon: Takeaways from the meeting ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿ’ฌ [ ] Send attendees copies of the slides and the Zoom recording after the webinar. Thank you so much for being so willing to share and support! kkaminski@neighborhoodhousemn.org 01:06:41 Lauren Stevens: I have to go โ€” thank you so much! 01:06:51 Catriona Wright: curious about your advice/opinion of this: we are considering implementing minimum one shift a year to stay on our volunteer list. 01:07:06 Sharon Hong: Replying to "Good afternoon Everyone. I think that would be a good idea, help filter out old accounts 01:07:19 Brittni Coe: Replying to "Our volunteer program includes many longtime horticulture volunteers. As some age, the physical demands of the work can become too great. How do you approach these transitions in a way that prioritizes safety while honoring their years of service and helping them remain connected to the organization?" I had this scenario at a non-profit I worked with that had a food pantry. Could they help oversee the training or quality assessment processes of the new trainees? Still hands on but not hard on backs? IF that is still too much, could they create the handbook or future policies that folks will follow based on their seasons of success? 01:07:29 Amanda Kintzi: We have an online orientation video, but I offer in person conversation if they want 01:07:36 Brianna Gohde: Reacted to "Our volunteer program includes many longtime horticulture volunteers. How do you approach these transitions in a way that prioritizes safety while honoring their years of service and helping them remain connected to the organization?" with ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป 01:07:52 Leigha Maland: I just archive volunteers I haven't heard from in awhile. If they come back, I can put them back in rotation. So far it's never been a big thing. Like I don't tell them they have to commit X times a year, I just fade them out. 01:08:00 Winona Patterson: Reacted to "I just archive volunteers I haven't heard from in awhile. I think it depends on the org/role; we have so few opportunities right now that it may be tough for a volunteer to find one that works/get picked! But as long as they stay in communication 01:08:05 Brianna Gohde: Replying to "Our volunteer progra..." This is a tough spot weโ€™re in too. How do you approach these transitions in a way that prioritizes safety while honoring their years of service and helping them remain connected to the organization?" The folks who couldn't garden, ended up putting together bundles of veggies for visiting families, they found recipes and helped to sort the veg to get it ready for distribution. I set up tables so that they did not have to bend down and found a quieter corner of the pantry. Other volunteers joined in because they felt that there was an " offramp" that allowed them to stay. One time I got them vegetable socks as a related thank you. 01:09:20 Sheldon Macleod: Thank you for the great presentation ,Karin and Angela 01:09:22 Kendra St. Cyr: Replying to "Good afternoon Everyone. I also don't have access. Could you please forward that to: volunteer@queeragingbc.ca. Thank you! 01:09:32 Joy McVey: Thanks for a great session! Gotta run to my next meeting. 01:09:45 Brianna Gohde: Replying to "curious about your a..." Weโ€™ve done that here. You have to do SOMETHING per year and, if youโ€™re part of a specific activity, you have to do at least one shift for that activity to stay on that mailing list. 2 years of inaction and they are automatically removed from the roster 01:09:49 Allie Acridge: Replying to "curious about your advice/opinion of this: we are considering implementing minimum one shift a year to stay on our volunteer list." I tell them in orientation that if I don't hear from them or see them doing hours for 3 months I will reach out, I send an email once a week for 3 weeks. If I don't hear from them after that I archive them. And I can move the profile to active if they come back. 01:10:25 Melissa Jackson: Replying to "curious about your advice/opinion of this: we are considering implementing minimum one shift a year to stay on our volunteer list." Thank you!! 01:11:27 Andrew Degen: Does anyone have any tips for minimizing cost of backgrounds. my organization requires backgrounds for all volunteer regardless of hours. I don't think it will be feasible to ask a volunteer to pay for their own background. Thoughts? 01:11:36 Brianna Gohde: Replying to "Our volunteer progra..." Off-ramps are a thing to try. Itโ€™s harder when the folks donโ€™t want to step back or take those off-ramps 01:11:37 Alison Brady: End of summer Pot Luck was always a "cheaper" option for us with a limited budget 01:11:38 Bev Friske: excellent presentation - strong presenters!
