Social Media Widgets

What is a Social Media Widget?

A social media widget makes it possible to display your organization’s social media feeds (Twitter, Flickr, Facebook) to volunteers (on their home page after they log in) and/or to prospective volunteers (on the page that advertises your volunteer opportunities).

When you specify social media settings at the enterprise level, the feed will be visible to volunteers in all organizations in the enterprise. This information will display in a separate section from any feeds defined at the organization level.

Twitter Settings

Please note that the Twitter widget is not supported on Internet Explorer 8.

  1. Go to: Configuration >> Enterprise Settings >> Social Media
  2. Twitter username:
    • Enter your Twitter username (without the “@” sign)
  3. Choose where to display your Twitter feed by checking the appropriate box(es):
    • Show Twitter feed on public pages (visible to prospective volunteers)
    • Show Twitter feed on the MyVolunteerPage.com home page (visible to volunteers)
  4. Once you have decided where to show the Twitter feed, click the [Preview Twitter Widget] button to see what it would look like to your volunteers. You’ll need to do this when you initially set up your Twitter feed and if you make any changes in the future.
  5. Click the [Save] button

Flickr Settings

  1. Go to: Configuration >> Enterprise Settings >> Social Media
  2. Flickr ID:
    1. Paste the URL of your Flickr profile page or photo stream into https://flickrid.betterimpact.com/
    2. Click the [Find] button
    3. Paste the results in the “Flickr ID” field (Social Media Settings, Flickr section)
  3. Choose where to display your Flickr feed by checking the appropriate box(es):
    • Show Flickr feed on public pages (visible to prospective volunteers)
    • Show Flickr feed on the MyVolunteerPage.com home page (visible to volunteers)
  4. Optional: Once you have decided where to show the Flickr feed, you can enter a tag to determine which photos should be displayed in your feed. For multiple tags, enter a dash between each tag. Click the [Preview] button to see what it would look like to your volunteers.
  5. Click the [Save] button

Facebook Settings

IMPORTANT:

The Facebook widget used only works with Facebook pages, not groups (public or private).
  1. Go to: Configuration >> Enterprise Settings >> Social Media
  2. Facebook Page URL: Paste the URL of your profile page into the “Facebook Page Url” field
  3. Select any of the other options:
    • Use small header on the Facebook widget
    • Hide cover photo on the Facebook widget
    • Show faces of friends on the Facebook widget
    • Show Facebook widget on the MyVolunteerPage.com home page
    • Show Facebook widget on public pages
  4. Once configured, you can click on the [Preview] to see what it would look like to your volunteers.

Controlling The Ability to Share on Social Media

  1. To control whether or not the “Share This” option (sharing information via social media such as Facebook, Twitter, etc.) displays, go to Configuration >> Enterprise Settings >> Social Media
  2. Scroll down to the “Share This Control Settings” section and select the desired options:
    • Show Share This control on public pages: The “Share This” control will appear on your home page, as well as any Activity detail page, sharing the URL of the page on which it appears.
    • Show Share This control on the MyVolunteerPage.com home page: If enabled, the “Share This” control will appear on the volunteer’s home page, sharing a link to your public home page. It will also appear on the Opportunity details page, sharing a link to the public page for the Activity (if the Activity is visible to public) or a link to your public home page (if the Activity is not visible to public).
  3. Click the [Save] button at the bottom of the screen.
