Providing More Information About Your Volunteer Opportunities

What is a Classification?

When creating General Interests and Activities in organizations in your enterprise, you can use Classifications to provide more information, enabling potential volunteers to search for opportunities by various criteria that you have created. Classifications can also be shown on your organization’s Application Form, enabling you to search for volunteer’s who have selected specific Classification values.

Types of Classifications

Types of Classifications:

  • Activity: the type of work or sector associated with an Activity, such as animal care, artistic, trades, office, etc.
  • Suitability: who an Activity would be suitable for, such as seniors, youths, adults, groups, families, and those near or on a bus route
  • Time Commitment: how much time is expected or required for an Activity (a few hours a day/week/month/year or whenever time permits)
  • Duration Commitment: suggested length of the volunteer commitment (flexible, 1 day, 1 to 3 months, over 2 years, etc.) for an Activity
  • Organization: the type of work your organization does
  • Community: the communities, neighbourhoods or areas of your city your organization serves

If your organization is part of an enterprise, prospective volunteers can search for an opportunity by Classifications on the public search page. This can be generated at the enterprise level by going to Configuration >> Links for Website.

Administrators at the organization level can select the Organization Classifications and Community Classifications that apply to their organization (Configuration >> Organization Settings >> Classifications).

Default values are available for all Classifications except for Community Classifications. You can add new Classifications and/or remove any that you don’t need.
